Fix Discord Doesn’t Open in Windows 10

A most irritating problem is that Discord doesn’t open in Windows. Here are some solutions to fix this problem.

1. Close Discord in Task Manager and Restart It

  • Open task manager on Windows 10. you'll press the shortcut key Ctrl + Shift + Esc to quickly open it.

  • Click the Process tab, and search Discord application to click it. After that click the End Task button at the right-bottom to kill the background Discord process.

  • Then you'll restart Discord to ascertain if it can open and work well.

Alternatively, you can also kill the background Discord process by using the Command Prompt.

2. Kill the Discord Task

  • Press Windows key + R.

  • Type cmd then click OK.

  • From the cmd window that seems type taskkill /F /IM discord.exe

  • After the method finishes, relaunch Discord.

Now everything should work fine. Additionally, you'll do an equivalent thing by using Task Manager: press Ctrl + Alt + Del > select Task Manager > in Task Manager find Discord > click thereon > click End Task > relaunch Discord.

3. Clear AppData and LocalAppData

  • Close Discord using the answer above.

  • Press Windows key + R and sort %appdata%. Then hit Enter.

  • From the new window that shows, search the Discord folder and delete it.

  • Relaunch Discord.

Now, you'll repeat the method to clear the LocalAppData by typing %localappdata% rather than %appdata% at step 2.

4. Check your Proxies

In many instances, Discord can’t open in Windows 10 due to VPNs. So, if you're employing a proxy or a VPN, this might be the case of your app not opening. To disable proxy, follow the steps:

  • In the Windows search box type instrument panel and hit Enter.

  • Click on Network and Internet > Internet Options.

  • An Internet Properties window should appear. Click on the Connections tab

  • Within the Local Area Network (LAN) settings section, tap on LAN Settings.

  • Inside Proxy server section, untick Use a proxy server for your LAN

  • Click OK, then Apply.

  • Relaunch Discord.

Now the matter should be gone.

Other General Fixes

  • Make sure your system is up-to-date.

  • Update Discord.

  • Set the Windows Date and Time to Automatic. This worked in some cases. Right-click on the date and time within the lower-right of your screen > Adjust date/time > Set time automatically.

  • Open the online version of Discord. A few users reported that using the online version resets the Discord session on your Windows 10 app. Start Discord on your PC> if the app can’t open, follow the online version and login together with your credentials, and then, the Windows 10 Discord app should work properly.

  • As a final resort, uninstall and reinstall Discord.

Hope that one of the solutions provided helped you to fix Discord doesn’t open in Windows 10.
