Extend Laptop Battery Life With Custom Windows Power Plans:

You can always use custom Windows power plans to extend the battery life of your laptop. Using the latest and the best processors can actually help you extend the battery life of your laptop. Now, your laptop's battery can last for more than 10 hours. However, this totally depends on the make and the model of your laptop.

Custom Windows power plans can help you change how your laptop's hardware components and processors change from low power to high power mode. So, here, we can explain to you how to create a custom Windows power plan to increase the battery life of your laptop.

How to Create a Custom Power Plan to Reduce Power Consumption?

Sometimes, default power plans don't meet your requirements. There is a chance that you use a portable battery for your laptop and wish to extend the battery life of both devices. Here, you will learn how to customize a power plan as per your needs.

In order to create a custom power plan, you just need to choose the option of Create a power plan by going to the Control Panel power options menu. Give a name to your plan and then choose the existing plan on which you are going to choose your plan. Whenever you create a custom power plan on Windows, you are required to consider a few things.

1) Turn Off the Display and Put Your Computer to Sleep

It is very easy to tweak these settings. It depends on you how long you want your display to remain idle before turning it off.  Windows 10 provides the Plugged in and On battery option on portable devices. If you wish to extend your custom power plan just for battery life preservation, then you need to keep the numbers low.

2) Advanced Sleep Settings

The sleep timer in the basic setting is not the only option that a person can adjust. The advanced settings of the Windows 10 power plan have customizable options. Choose the option of "Change advanced power settings"  to launch the advanced menu.

After that, you will see some additional sleep options such as Hibernate after, Allow hybrid sleep, and sleep after. This option combines the hibernate mode and sleep mode in a single mode. You can also put your computer to sleep by using a combination of Hibernate after and Sleep after option.

In case you set the sleep timers to the Never option, then you must set a time for hibernate timers. This will keep your computer in hibernation mode instead of the sleep mode for a selected time period.

3) Processor Power Management

Display brightness helps in reducing power use and enhances the battery life. However, this is not the only thing that affects power consumption in the custom power plan. The power consumption by your CPU is totally dependent on how you use it. If you run a demanding program, then it can drastically increase power consumption, irrespective of the power plan you are using.

The option of "processor power management" controls the CPU output. This provides a percentage mount for both the maximum as well as the minimum state. In case the maximum state is 100%, then your computer will use 100% capacity whenever needed.

However, if you set the maximum state as 50%, then your CPU will use less capacity. It is more like an underclocking tool that enables you to use fewer CPU resources. As a result, you are able to increase the battery life.

4) Wireless Adapters and Graphics Settings

In case you are using an intel system, then you will see an Intel Graphics settings option in the power plan menu. This option will help you define a default graphics level for your CPU graphics settings.

This will allow you to switch between maximum, minimum, and balanced battery performance. If you want to increase the battery life and minimize power consumption, then you must select the maximum battery life option.

Another great power-saving option is Wireless Adapter Settings. Your wireless adapter's battery can be reduced to save battery life. If you wish to get maximum battery life, then change to maximum power saving.
