Corrupted System Files on Windows 10

Quite commonly, users have to face the bad consequences of corrupted system files on Windows 10. Well, there are several reasons for the corrupted system files. Most of the time, it's not that easy or even impossible to repair the corrupted files manually. But nevertheless, not to get upset as we present you a solution guide to fix corrupted system files on Windows 10. All the possible solutions have been listed below one by one.

Various Methods to Fix Corrupted System Files on Windows 10

1. DISM

DISM (Deployment Image Servicing and Management) is a tool designed to fix corrupted system files on Windows 10. This helps in providing instant fixes to repair the damaged system files as this tool works through command prompt following the given steps:

Step 1: Firstly, launch the Command Prompt on your screen as Admin. You can find this in the Start Menu by the keyword ‘cmd’ or ‘command prompt.’

Step 2: Next, enter the DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth command and press ENTER button.

Point to Note: If it gives an error message, then check and verify that you are launching the command prompt as administrator. And if you still can’t run the command, then re-check the command if it's correctly copied or not.

Step 3: As the command runs, you have to wait for the repair process to be at 100%. It might take 10-15 minutes to complete, so be patient in the process.

So probably, most of the system files will get resolved with this method when you restart your PC after running the DISM command. However, if you still find corrupted system files on Windows 10 then move on to the next step.

2. SFC

SFC (System File Checker) is another Windows tool that scans your PC for any corrupted files and fixes them by itself. To access and operate the system using this tool, you can follow the given steps:

Important Note: For Windows 10 users, it is essentially recommended to run the DISM tool before jumping ahead with the SFC tool.

Step 1: For using the SFC tool, first open the command prompt on your PC as Admin.

Step 2: Secondly, enter sfc /scannow command in the Command prompt window and then press the ENTER button.

The system scan will now initiate automatically and this will take a couple of minutes to complete.
As the scan completes, you’ll get one of the following messages stated below:

1. Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

2. Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.

3. Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them. Details are included in the CBS.Log %WinDir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log [This message lists all the issues with your Windows PC and are then resolved]

4. Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log %WinDir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log.

So, restart your PC simply and check whether any corrupted system files on Windows 10 exist or not.

3. Repair Windows Startup

The other way is to perform Startup Repair in Windows 10 in case your PC is taking longer than usual while booting. However this process doesn't require much steps on your behalf. Further, you can follow these steps to get it done by yourself in minutes.

Step 1: Press and hold the SHIFT keys together and then click on the Restart button inside power options.

Step 2: Now, select the Troubleshoot option on the Boot screen.

Step 3: Next, click on the Advanced options.

Step 4: Lastly, choose the Startup Repair option and initiate the repair process.

Though this process will take some time to fix your problem, you need to wait for repairing the Windows 10 OS files on your PC.

4. Windows System Restore

The last method discussed in this guide is to use the Windows Restore feature which reverts your PC condition to a previous state in time. However, for using this feature, you must have enabled the System Restore on Windows 10 and then created a restore point in the past. But if you haven't created any restore point, then unfortunately you can’t use this feature. However, if you have already created any restore point, then you can very well repair the system files on your PC.
