Windows Update not Working for your Latest Upgrade:

Windows update works as the foundation of your computer system. It doesn't only keep your computer system current and healthy but it updates new features to Windows that make the platform more relevant and fresh. But we all are well aware that Microsoft updates don't work as smoothly as they may seem.

Here you will learn how to fix the problem of Windows update not working. Also, you will learn what you need to do when an update becomes a cause of many issues.

Managing Automatic Updates

A user is not permitted to disable the automatic updates in Windows 10. However, you can manage it when your PC installs updates and restarts. This will ensure that your system won't restart while you are busy working or at a time that may cause inconvenience to you.

Change Active Hours

Step 1: Select the icon of Notifications given on your Taskbar given immediately after the Settings tile i.e., located in the action center.

Step 2: After that, select the option of Update and Security

Step 3: Then, the category of Windows Update will launch by default. After that, select the option of "Change Active Hours".

Step 4: Now, the present active hours will appear on the screen before you. After that, select the option of Change Link.

Step 5: Then, you need to adjust the start time as well as the end time. After that, you are required to select the End button. The total length is 18 hours.

Try Rescheduling System Reboot

If a restart has been scheduled by Windows 10 for installing updates, then you can reschedule the restart time as per your convenience.

Step 1: Select the icon of Notifications located at your taskbar. It is given after the Settings tile under Action Center.

Step 2: Now, click on the option of "Update and Security".

Step 3: This will launch Windows Update by default. Select the link "Schedule the Restart" given after the button of Restart Now.

Step 4: Now to turn on the custom schedule, you must move the toggle to the right.

Step 5: Select the day and time and then save the changes.

Pause Updates

If you are experiencing some specific problem, then that means the issue is not associated with your computer. The update may cause issues on other devices as well. In such a case, you must fix the problem by pausing the update. You can pause an update for a maximum of 35 days.

Take a look at the steps below to learn how to pause an update.

Step 1: Go to the Notifications icon given in the Taskbar.

Step 2: After that, select the option of Update & Security

Step 3: Now, the Windows Update category will open up on its own.

Step 4: Click on the Downward-facing arrow given adjacent to Select Date in the section of Pause Updates.

Step 5: Now, choose any date from the drop-down list.

The option of pausing updates is only applicable to Quality updates and isn't applicable on "Feature Updates" as they get installed on their own.

Run the Troubleshooter

Sometimes the issue gets fixed by running the Windows Update troubleshooter.

Below are the steps that you need to carry out to run the troubleshooter.

Step 1: Go to the Notifications icon given in the taskbar.

Step 2: Choose the option of Update and Security

Step 3: Now, the Windows update category will open up on its own. There, go to the troubleshooting tab given on the left.

Step 4: Select "Additional Troubleshooter" given on the right side.

Step 5: Now, select Windows Update

Step 6: After that, select the button "Run the Troubleshooter".

The troubleshooter won't resolve your issue but will help you fix the problem by providing the necessary information.
