Windows 10 Start Menu Doesn't Work:

If you have been using Windows for a long time now, then you must be knowing how important the Start button is. Operating your computer can become a huge struggle if the Start menu suddenly stops functioning or disappear from the desktop. If such a thing happens, then don't panic as here we are available with some troubleshooting solutions that you can apply to fix Start menu-related problems. 

Solution 1: Restart Your Computer System

If your Start menu starts working abnormally or anything abnormal starts happening on your system, then the first thing that you need to try is to restart your system. This one solution can fix many computer-related issues. Hence, before you try any other complicated troubleshooting solution, you must try restarting your system and see if it fixes your problem. 

Solution 2: Start Searching for Corrupted Files

The inbuilt system file checker of Windows can help you fix corrupted files and helps you bring your system to a proper state. below are the steps that you need to carry out in order to perform a system file check. 

Step 1: Launch Run by pressing the Windows key and R key simultaneously. 

Step 2: Now, enter CMD and launch the command prompt. 

Step 3: Once the command prompt opens up, enter SFC/SCANNOW. 

These commands will give an instruction to Windows to fix corrupted files in your system. If this method does not work, then try using some other command. Now, go to the command prompt and type DISM/ONLINE/CLEANUP-IMAGE/RESTOREHEALTH

This will allow Deployment Imaging and Servicing Management tool. DISM can allow you to resolve errors that stop SMC from doing its work. 

Solution 3: Restart Windows Explorer

Windows Explorer process allows you to handle the Start Menu. The restart process will enable the Start menu to function properly. Below are the steps that you need to carry out in order to Restart Windows Explorer. 

Step 1: Launch the Task Manager by pressing ctrl, Esc, and Shift simultaneously. 

Step 2: Click on the processes tab.

Step 3: The list of all the active applications will open up before you. Search for Windows Explorer from there. 

Step 4: Select Windows Explorer and then right-click on it. Now, select Restart. 

Solution 4: Launch Application Identity Service

A person who doesn't use computers much should stay away from the application identity service. However, if none of the above solutions work out for you, then you will be forced to use the Application Identity service to fix your problem. 

Step 1: Press the Windows key and R key concurrently and enter SERVICES.MSC. 

Step 2: Now, a list of services will open up before you. Search for Application Identity Service from there. 

Step 3: Right-click on Application Identity and then select Start. Now, restart your PC. 

Solution 5: Create a New Admin Account

If you are not attached to your present Admin account, then you can consider creating a new one. Create a new admin account and check if it fixes the Start menu missing problem. To create a new admin account, below are the steps that you need to carry out. 

Step 1: First of all, launch the Task Manager. 

Step 2: After that, go to File and then Run a New Task. 

Step 3: Type NET USER ACCOUNTNAME PASSWORD/ADD.

Check the box that will allow you to have administrative privileges. Now, log in using a new account that you just created. After that, check if the Start button is present on your desktop or not. In case no issues appear while using the new account, then transfer all the settings from your previous account. For this, you will have to log into your old account.

Follow the steps given below for transferring the settings from your old account to the new account. 

Step 1: Launch Control Panel and then go to System. After that, select Advanced System and then click on Settings. 

Step 2: Now, open the Advanced tab. Select Settings given below the User Profiles. 

Step 3: Choose your new profile and select copy to.
