Connect Roku Streaming Devices to the Internet

In case your Roku streaming device is not able to get access to the video and audio streaming from the internet. If you want to make this work, then you need to form a connection with the internet and home network. You can form a wireless connection by using any of the Roku streaming devices of the present generation. Moreover, you can connect your Roku streaming device to the internet using an ethernet port or a wired cable. 

Wireless vs Wired

When you will turn on your Roku device, then the guided setup will get turned on on its own. This will allow you to connect to the internet and the home network. It will enable you to configure the settings and preferences and activate your Roku device.  But before you start, you need to know whether you will connect your Roku device to a wired or wireless connection. 

If you are going for the Wi-Fi network, then you need to know the name of your network and the password that you need to enter for having access to the network. These details are similar to the one you use when you connect your smartphone or computer system to the wireless network to your home internet. 

In case you are using a wired network, then you need to connect one end of the ethernet wire to the ethernet port on your Roku device and the other end o the router. 

How to Connect to your Home Network at the Time of the Setup?

These are the steps that you need to follow during the guided setup. 

Step 1: To connect the Roku streaming device to the internet, select wired or wireless. In case there is no ethernet port on your Roku device, then the wired option is not going to show up. If you choose the wired network, then connect to your internet and home network. Choose wireless and then move forward with the next step. 

Step 2: Select the wireless network out of the list of all the networks that appear before you. In case your home network is not on the screen, then you need to click on scan again to view all the networks. 

Step 3: To connect the Roku streaming device to the internet, enter the password that you need to enter in order to have access to the Wi-Fi. You can also click on the show password while you are typing in the password section. This way you will be able to avoid mistakes. Also, while entering the password you must remember that the passwords are case sensitive.

Step 4: Press shift in order to write a password. After entering the password, you just need to click on connect. After that, your Roku streaming device will connect to the internet and home network. 

Once you have successfully completed the process of the Roku device to the internet, then the most recent software for the device is going to be installed and downloaded. After that, your Roku device will restart. 

Updating Network Settings or Connecting Later

In case the network connection was not established at the time of guided setup and then the network was changed, then you need to make some changes in the connection. Go to your Roku device’s settings menu by following the instructions that are given below. 

Step 1: On your Roku remote, you will see a home button. Press that button.

Step 2: To connect the Roku streaming device to the internet go up and down and then click on settings.  

Step 3: Choose the network and then select a setup connection. 

Step 4: Then, select wireless or wired.

Step 5: Now, you must keep in mind that the wired option will not appear if there is no ethernet port on your Roku device. 

Step 6: In case you select wired, your device will get connected to the internet. If you see wireless, then you need to go forward with the next step. 

Step 7: Select your home wireless network from the list of networks that appear in front of you. In case there is no network around you, then you must click on scan again to see all the networks. Once you have selected your network, then enter the password.
