Before you go ahead and factory reset a Windows 10 laptop, you must create a backup of your data. Even if you are planning to sell your laptop or you think that you don't need a backup, it is always better to create a backup as you may need the data at some point later on. 

You can also schedule regular backups, so there's no risk of losing your important data. If you are experiencing issues in loading your OS, then you must create a backup on the cloud. This way, you won't lose your data even if your drive crashes. 

Methods to Factory Reset a Windows Laptop

Method 1

There are two methods to factory reset a laptop with Windows 10. Below, we have described both methods in detail. 

Step 1: Go to the Start menu and then click on the Settings option. Now, the Settings window will open up before you. 

Step 2: After that, go to the Search bar and type Reset. 

Step 3: Then, select the option of Reset this PC from the results appearing on the screen.

Method 2

Step 1: First of all, launch the Start menu

Step 2: After that, select Settings

Step 3: Now, click on the option of "Update and Security". 

Step 4: Then, go to the panel on the left and select Recovery. 

Step 5: Now, you will see three options i.e., Reset this PC, Advanced, and go back to an earlier build. Select the option of Reset this PC from these 3 options. 

Step 6: After that, click on Get Started. 

Step 7: Now, you need to choose whether you want to keep your personal files on your PC or go back to the default mode. If you select the option of "Remove my files and clean the drive", then a new user will not be able to access your old files.
