Avast is one of the most widely used free antivirus software for Windows, but it is not without flaws. One of the more odd features is the automatic inclusion of an Avast commercial in your incoming emails. Avast (or its closely related sister AVG) inserts advertising at the bottom of your email messages by default when you install it.
This function, understandably, can irritate some users, especially since it isn't immediately visible before installation. It can also give your emails an unprofessional tone, especially if you're a professional. This is what you'll need to do if you want to get rid of the Avast email signature.
When you install the Avast antivirus program, the Avast email signature is activated immediately. In addition, Avast automatically adds a footer signature to any emails you send while it is operating.
Avast adds this to emails sent through web email providers like Gmail and those sent through installed mail programs like Outlook. You'll see different messages, such as "Virus-free" and "This email was sent from a virus-free computer secured by Avast."
This functionality is also enabled in AVG, the free antivirus software from Avast that offers many of the same features. While the advertisement is a free and effective tool for Avast to generate new customers, it informs every email recipient that you use Avast or AVG. This free advertisement, especially for professional users, can degrade the quality of the emails you send.
Before sending an email, you can erase the Avast email signature. However, this is a time-consuming operation. So instead, the most effective way to prevent it from showing is to turn off the feature completely. However, because the method isn't straightforward, you'll need to follow the steps below to Remove the Avast Email Signature from displaying in Avast or AVG.
On Windows 10, the Avast email signature shows for Avast users. To get rid of it, start by right-clicking the orange Avast symbol on the taskbar, which can be found in the system tray area on the right.
1. Select the Open Avast user interface option from the MenuMenu.
2. The Avast user interface will appear. To go to the settings menu, go to the top-right and select MenuMenu.
3. Select the Settings option from the MenuMenu.
4. Press the left-hand Protection tab in Avast's options menu. Next, select the Core Shields option from a selection of Avast's protective features and options.
5. Scroll down to the Configure Shields Settings category in the Core Shields settings. Select Mail Shield from the drop-down MenuMenu.
6. In the Mail Shield menu, you'll find several options for using Avast to secure your emails. To get rid of the Avast email signature, uncheck the option to add a signature to the end of sent emails.
When you uncheck the setting box, the setting should be disabled, preventing any future Avast advertising from being inserted to your email messages. If you're happy with the changes, close the settings menu using the Close button in the top-left corner.
Avast is popular antiviruses, but with recent privacy scandals and contentious "features" like the Avast email signature, it's worth looking at alternatives. Windows Defender, in particular, is an excellent way to keep your PC clean without having to use third-party software.
Antivirus software like Avast and AVG can help you recover from an infection, but it's up to you to maintain your PC virus-free. You can keep your PC safe by keeping it up to date, which includes any installed software. You should also back up your files so that if you get a virus infection that you can't recover from, you can easily erase your PC and start again.
