Every operating system naturally starts up with a booting process. However, if there are so many startup programs to load during the booting time, the performance gets considerably low. One such idea to improve your system performance is to disable startup programs on Windows 10. Obviously, it becomes challenging when your computer slows down and you are unable to perform required functions. This guide will basically deal with the method to improve the performance time when you
startup. Windows 10 is considered as one of the fast and responsive operating systems. But then if have installed lots of apps in your system, it sets trouble while starting up your computer. The reason behind this is that it bogs down the boot process substantially.
Unfortunately, the different apps installed on your system add themselves to your boot process for various reasons, auto-update being one of the main ones. Irrespective of that, let's understand how to disable startup programs on Windows 10 and make the boot process fast again.
Important Note: If you are not running Windows 10 and experiencing slow booting issues with your current operating system, then you can refer to the guides for Windows 8.1 or Windows 7.
Step 1: Firstly, right-click anywhere in an empty area on the Taskbar and then select Task Manager. The Task Manager for Windows 10 will be launched.
Step 2: As the Task Manager shows up on your screen, click the Startup tab, and check the running list of programs that are enabled to run during startup. So, in order to stop them from running, right-click the specific program, and select the Disable option.
In this version, you will note one major and important thing. You will have the option to get a better idea of what the app does or performs before disabling it completely. During the whole session time, you end up installing multiple programs that we forget what they’re meant for. But, you can always have access to open an app’s file location, properties, or if that doesn’t help, you can search for it online also. Another good feature brought to you by Windows 10 is the Startup impact column where you can easily check how much or little a program is affecting the startup time.
What most people do while setting up their new computer system? They tend to install all their favorite and free apps on the system which naturally loads the booting process. It is highly recommended to skip all the programs from uninstalling that you want to access quickly.
Another point to remember is that while you install new software, simply navigate to its options and set it not to run during startup. Check this particular setting time to time and disable that specific software. Try to consider those programs that heavily impact on the boot rates of your OS. Consequently, disable startup programs on Windows 10 which are causing the system and boot process to work slow.
Another question you might get into your head is “Which programs have to be enabled?” Well, the answer is quite simple: none! All the programs that are installed on your system can be disabled, and Windows will start up with zero problem occurrence. However, there might be some things that you want at the ready, won’t be, and you’ll need to start them up manually.
You learned the procedure to disable startup programs on Windows 10 but what if your system is installed with an old version of the OS? Few software programs like firewall and anti-virus should be loaded during the start of Windows. However, there are few programs that waste the system resources at the boot startup. One tool installed with Windows, called MSConfig allows you to quickly check what’s running at startup. So, you can disable the programs you want to run on our own after
startup. The tool is available for use in Windows 7, Vista, and XP.
NOTE: MSConfig can be used to configure various things other than startup programs. So, be careful while using it.
In order to launch MSConfig, open the Start menu and type “msconfig.exe” (without the quotes) in the Search box. Once you type, results will be displayed. As you see “msconfig.exe,” click on it and then press Enter, if it is highlighted.
Reading this step by step guide to disable startup programs on Windows 10 you could easily bring back your computer to normal functioning mode.
