Hello Guys,Please let me know how to fix Windows key not working on Windows 10? I don't know how to fix it.I tried many times but unable to fix it.So can anyone have any idea?
PowerShell is a powerful command line tool which allows you to core windows 10 components. You can do all sorts of things with PowerShell, and since this is such a powerful tool. Generally, to start PowerShell you need to use the windows key + S shortcut, but you can open PowerShell by following these steps:
1.To open task manager, press and hold Ctrl + Shift + Esc keys on your keyboard.
2.Next, open File > Run new task.
3.Enter powershell and check Create this task with administrative privileges. Then click OK or
press Enter.
4.Once the PowerShell opens, enter Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -
DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation) \AppXManifest.xml”} and press Enter.
5.Windows key will start working again once the command is executed.
We have to warn you that modifying the registry can cause certain problems if you’re not careful, so we highly recommend that you export your registry and use the exported registry file as a backup. Below are a few steps to modify your registry:
1.Go to the task manager, open File > Run new task.
2.Enter regedit and press Enter or click OK.
3.In the left pane open the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout
key.
4.Extend the Keyboard Layout key, locate Scancode Map registry entry and delete it.
5.Once all that is done, close Registry Editor and restart your computer.
In case you can’t find the scanmode Map entry, there are chances that it might not be available on your computer system.
You have probably got a support for gaming mode on your keyboard, in case you own a gaming keyboard. Gaming mode is designed to disable certain keys during game play sessions that might interrupt your game.
Many of you aren’t actually aware of the fact that your keyboard supports Gaming mode.
So make sure to check if your gaming mode is on, in case your windows key isn’t working on your keyboard. Because many keyboards have Gaming mode switch on them, so be sure that the switch isn’t set to Gaming mode.
Be sure to check your keyboard for this switch which is usually located above F2 and F3 buttons, and it has a joystick image next to it, and again use it to turn off Gaming mode.
However, different keyboards use different methods to disable Gaming mode, so be sure to check your keyboard’s instruction manual to see how to properly disable Gaming mode.
Some keyboards also have Winlock buttons other than gaming mode switch on button on them.
Winlock button is used to disable the windows key on your keyboard.
So make sure to check if your keyboard has this key available.
The key is placed next to the right Ctrl button on your keyboard, so remember to look for it. Once you find the Win Lock button, press it and your Windows key should start working again.
1.Go to the settings app.
2.Then open the Accounts section.
3.Then click on Family and other people section.
4.In the Other people section click Add someone else to this PC button.
5.Next, click on I don’t have this person’s sign-in information.
6.Now choose Add a user without a Microsoft account.
7.Enter the name for the new user account and click Next to proceed further.
Once you are done creating a new account, sigh out of your previous account and then switch to a new one. In case if there is no problem with Windows key on a new account, it means that the software is causing this issue.
Lastly, use you new account as your main account by moving your personal files into your new account.
Windows 10 posses a DISM tool, which allows you to create Windows 10 images that lets you to easily restore Windows 10 to an earlier state.
You can use these images to quickly reinstall their Windows 10, but note that the DISM tool is a powerful tool that allows you to change which components of Windows 10 will be installed.
However, sometimes DISM tool might be the one reason behind your Windows key not working on Windows 10 issue. So make sure to remove all the changes you have made to the DISM packages in order to fix the issue.
At times, your windows 10 installation becomes corrupted, which leads to the dysfunction certain features of windows to stop working. You will be required to perform a sfs scan, in case your windows key isn’t working in your computer system. Here are the steps to perform the scan:
1.Go to Task Manager, and click on File > Run new task.
2.When Create new task window opens, enter cmd and check to Create this task with administrative
privileges.
3.Once the command prompt opens, enter sfc /scannow and press Enter.
4.Wait for a while till the scan gets completed and once it is done, restart your computer system.
Once you computer is restarted, check if the issue still persists. Start Command Prompt again and run Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth command.
Certain malware and viruses and cause problems with the Windows key and disable it completely, at times. In case you find out that your system is infected by malicious software, perform a full system scan.
Download and run some malware removal tools available to check for malware. Windows key has multiple functionalities. If Windows key isn’t working on Windows 10, be sure to check if Gaming mode is turned on.
