Move Single or Multiple Steam Games to Another Drive in Windows 10:

It is always recommended to install a Steam game on a drive that has a lot more space as compared to the default drive i.e., C drive. In case you didn't do it earlier, then you can now move your Steam games to a new drive. You should not keep anything in the C drive as it is the least trustworthy drive. Plus, games take up a lot of space, so they shouldn't be there.

Moving Steam Games on Another Drive

Steam enables a user to move a game to a new drive or library but if you wish to move several Steam games at once from one location to another, then it is recommended to use the SLM tool. The SLM tool is also known as the inbuilt backup function. So, let us learn how to move Steam games from one location to another.

Use an Inbuilt Function to Move Steam Games

Usually, Steam games get stored in C:\ProgramFiles\Steam\steamapps\common\. If you keep everything in a single folder, then it will make things easier for you. Steam also allows users to have more than one download folder. This means you are allowed to store games at any time you want.

  • Launch Steam and then go to Settings. After that, go to Downloads and then move to Steam Library folders. After that, select Add Library folder.
  • Now, go to a different drive and make a new folder. You can give it the name of SteamGames or whatever you want.
  • Launch the Games Library and then select the game that you wish to move. After that, click on Properties.
  • Now, move to the tab of Local Files.
  • Search for the Move Install Folder.

Here, you will get proper details about where your folder is located. After that, you will see the option that will help you choose the new locations you selected in the last step. Select the option of "Move Folder" and the moving process will begin. The time taken to complete the process depends on the game's size. Steam is going to find a similar structure for the folder which is Steam\steamapps\common\ in the new destination that you just selected.

Move Games in Batches Using Steam Library

The Steam Library Manager allows you to manage Steam libraries. It enables you to backup, move, or copy games between SLM and Steam libraries. It provides a simple interface that has a list of all the libraries on your computer. Also, it enlists the games present in these libraries.

  • You can drag the game from one library and then drop it to another.
  • It shows free storage space in every drive where the library is created.
  • Multiple games can be moved using the Task Manager section.
  • Moves the real-time progress report.
  • Integrates Steam Menu such as Game Hub.
  • Go to SLM and launch games.

Once you move the games, a log will generate. This way, you will have a clear understanding if a problem occurs. Once you are done moving all the games, you can clear the logs as well. You may also require to launch your Steam App once again for reflecting the changes.
